By accident, I fell into an unexpected and wonderful experience in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. I stayed at a local Bed and Breakfast, Maison Madeleine at Lake Martin, for a two week period in the fall.

This home is run by two charming and knowledgeable hosts who were interesting, easy to live with, and entertaining. This place really felt comfortable enough to be home, yet different enough to feel like you were on vacation. It provides solitude and privacy in a remote setting, yet is safe enough to walk freely about the countryside.

Lake Martin is across the road and is an ideal location for nature lovers and photographers. The hosts, Madeleine and Mark, have created an 19th century home with 21st century comfort which provides a unique old world experience without traveling outside the USA. By the time I left, my body was rejuvenated, my soul was refreshed, and my mind was tingling. I would highly recommend this unique experience to other travelers.
